Julian Wild
Julian graduated from Kingston University in 1995.
Julian is currently creating a series of works called “Systems”, which explore the potential of functional materials and the expressive possibilities of a single line. Alongside the Systems he has recently made a series of ceramic sculptures based on the semiotics of the material.
His work has the appearance of being self-ordered, an accumulation of elements or lines migrate and magnetize together to create structures. His sculptures make playful references to function through the appropriation of construction processes, from welded metal pipe through to glazed sanitary ware.
Originally pre-determined by a geometric shape, the sculptures are beginning to be determined by the accumulation of elements within each piece or through the interaction of the object with the architecture and space that surrounds it.
Julian has exhibited at V22 Ashwin Street, The Fine Art Society and Maddox Arts. In 2005 he was short-listed for the Jerwood Sculpture Prize.
He has been commissioned to make public sculptures for: Millfield School, The Cass Sculpture Foundation, Crest Nicholson, Wyeth Europa, Schroders Investment Management, Radley College and The Jerwood Sculpture Park.
